Power drive journeys down a new road

by Cohen Reutzel on January 06, 2022

When you think of extracurricular activities, most people think about sports or academics, but many people don’t think about Power Drive.

This year, Power Drive is building a new car and improving the one they created last year.

For the second year now, Mr. Blake Barwick sponsors this competitive club.

“I started coaching Power Drive because it was an activity I was asked to continue, and I enjoyed it in high school,” said Barwick.

The group has parts donated to them as well as funds so that they can buy more parts.

“My favorite part about Power Drive is race day,” said Barwick.

The team has a total of four races that all happen on the weekends in April. The races take place in different locations, such as Hastings and Lincoln.

Sophomore Logan Brunkhorst has been involved in Power Drive for three years.

“My favorite part about Power Drive is getting to go places and watch the others compete in what we created,” said Brunkhorst.

There are different kinds of races in Power Drive. Some kinds of races are based on speed while others are on distance.

“Power Drive is a good activity where you get to apply shop and science skills,” said Barwick.

The team tries to meet once a week. They usually meet on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.

Junior Lathem Schumm has chosen to participate in Power Drive for the first time this year.

“My favorite part about Power Drive is getting to see my friends and Mr. Barwick more often,” said Schumm.

The Power Drive team is always open to accepting more members and encourages others to join.
